DTLA Art Walk

The second Thursday of every month, art galleries open for an Art Walk in downtown Los Angeles (DTLA). Most galleries open until 10pm then everyone heads to local bars; it's a great way to get people to be UNafraid of the former very scary DTLA. It was my first time going, and it was definitely a new experience: lots of people appreciating art in old-rundown buildings that have been renovated to hold artwork of up & coming artists.

But the one thing that I wasn't a fan of was the masses of HIPSTERS that were ERRwhere. Oh how cool they think they are. Brush your hair! Take a bath! Stop being different - you all look the same! No offense to hipsters.
rye: adidas jacket, scarf from my sister

Simplicity was my goal & I decided to go with just jeans & one of my two favorite trench coats.
citizen jeans, jessica simpson booties, h&m trench coat
The lighting makes the jacket look orange - but trust, it's a nice coral color.

OH and we found the bench from 500 Days of Summer, but it was closed, so hopefully we'll be able to take photos there one day. Hipsters.

Not Speaker Appropriate

One time I wore this outfit & I was going to speak at a gaming conference. When I told my boss I was going to wear this, he looked at me like, "Oh child" and I had to go home & change. FINE. This is what I wear on a random Thursday then.

Does it look like I'm taking a dump? Seriously?
martin + osa top, express bermuda shorts & tights, steve madden heels, headband from target
Guess who decided to make a cameo:
Poncho in front & Sydney in tow
Poncheezy is more photogenic than I am. Sigh.
Also, do I have CT?

African Manhunt

I felt like a glamorous (in my own mind) safari adventurer in my khaki skirt & red scarf. Ahoy over 'dere me matey!

Dammit, that's not right.

f21 shirt, scarf, belt, bracelet / martin + osa skirt / joey o heels
When I typed out each piece, I realized this outfit was really cheap. (insert: like me)

Oh I know you missed it...didn't you? DIDN'T YOU?

OUT-TAKES!
gettin' jiggy wid it: na na na na naa na
seductive or facial spasm? testing out the lighting.

Hey you! Got a question? Ask me on Formspring: http://www.formspring.me/hoisinivy

The real question is when I googled African Manhunt, why did I get this?

So Romantic

Like me, this look is fast & easy.

Glossy lids & matte lips oozes romanticism; pair it with loose curls & side-swept bangs and you're ready for some chocolate-covered strawberries on the beach. (I unfortunately did not get around to doing my hair..nor did I ever get chocolate-covered anything.)

eyes: clear lipgloss + aquaphor / lips: nars lipstick in first bite / cheeks: MAC cream blush in Lilicent
Steps are easy as:
+ Curl eyelashes & apply mascara - allow to dry & set
+ Apply Vaseline (I used Aquaphor) & clear lipgloss on upper lids (up to your crease) - any further & you risk looking like your eyeballs are sweaty
+ Matte lips is the key here - I chose a darker wine, but a matte pink would work as well
+ Apply cream blush to the apples of your cheeks.

End Result:
Voila! Now...who wants to sweep me off my feet? No one? You? No? How about you? Pass?

Le Sigh.

P.S Just joined formspring.me - and I'm desperate for questions! DESPERATE. ASK ME STUFF okay you guys? It's so I feel important: http://www.formspring.me/hoisinivy

Happiest Place on Earth

Though I grew up with Disneyland in my backyard, there's nothing like going back there to see how it's evolved & bring up fond memories. I was lucky enough to go for one of my good friend's birthday (and her daughter's).

steph: h&m jacket, uo scarf, seven for all mankind jeans, nike free sneakers, harajuku lovers backpack
rye: james perse jacket, true religion jeans, weezer tee, nike air max sneakers
shoulda bought this - i knew it was a good look
My favorite Disneyland memory is of my best friends & me having annual passes back in 8th grade & having our parents drop us off for just a few hours almost every weekend. We'd literally go for just a few rides, then head back home.

Have you ever been to Disneyland?
What is your favorite memory?

Clean House

I love seeing how you all store & organize your things, because everyone has a unique perspective. Here's a glimpse into my make-up cases, starting off with my "everyday make-up":
Stackable tupperware isn't sexy, but is compact & easy to access. As you can see, I mix in all types of make-up: from MAC to Cover Girl to Kat von D.
Make-up brushes pile up on one another;
eyeshadows are separated from foundation / blushes, brushes, and lipgloss

But I am a product whore & I love new things...I just can't help here. Here's a peek into two of my metal make-up cases, divided by lip gloss & lipstick and eyeshadows.

I have met my match with someone who's just as anal (who is, not likes...you perv!) Rye Bread is notoriously organized. Here's a look into his closet:

His drawer, dedicated to ties.

categorized by shirt type and pant type, his closet stays immaculate.

What are your best strategies to keeping a clean space?

Swing Swing

Taking pictures is hard when you're in a rush, but here's my work outfit of the day. Nothing fancy or special...except for my new love of SKINNY BELTS.

Also, I realized my bangs were too "fringed" and had to make them a little more blunt...and a little less FOB.

My shirt is a bit lumpy, gross.
club monoco top, f21 skirt & belt, express tights, shoes from charlotte russe
I bought these shoes back in college...a good...oh, I don't know, (cough) 6 years ago and I am JUST figuring out how to wear them. Winged tip shoes reminds me of big bands, swing music, and zoot suits, but with a 3" heel, they're a little more refined.
