Halloween...Party on Wayne!

While most of the world can't wait to dress up, most Halloweens I find myself dreading it...every year, girls seem to use this as an excuse to dress up like slutty ERRTHANG. Slutty cat, slutty character from a movie that just came out, slutty angel (srsly?) & now even slutty Chewbacca (not joking, it's sold here). Last year I went as RYE BREAD (not joking again); this year, Rye wanted to go as Lou & Andy from BBC's Little Britain...and while I love their skit, seriously?

In fact, we weren't really planning on going out at all, but at the last minute threw together costumes. Rye went as Wayne from Wayne's World & I went as Cassandra. I should have gone as Garth, but Rye knew that I didn't want to go as a guy...AGAIN. If we went out again, I would have...I'm a trooper.

So I threw on the lace dress seen here, bought a pair of gloves, and strapped on my Rock Band guitar! Ryan bought a black shirt, a pair of $13 jeans from Target (so he could rip the knees out), and we actually embroidered the hat - talk about commitment! I will say the one sucky thing about being Cassandra was...if Rye left my side, NO ONE KNEW who I was!! I looked like a random girl in a lace dress with a fake guitar...sigh.

Anyway, it turned out to be a pretty good time with the same group of friends...for your enjoyment, pictures!

I hope you had a spoOoooky Halloween! I stayed in on Sunday to give away candy...but only TWO trick-or-treaters came out! WTF? What are kids doing these days? Who's going to eat all the candy? me.

Sequin...No, Scales

I bought this shirt awhile back at a thrift store in Brooklyn called Beacon's Closet. It's a HUGE store, but I ended up buying this one shirt, which I love, but didn't know what to do with. It just didn't seem right with pants, so on one of the final weekends of summer, I got to wear my denim shorts! And my huge ass platforms! The illusion of long legs...I love.

A funny story about this shirt is that while a couple of my girlfriends complimented me on the sequin (and of course being shiny)...my good friend Arthur came up to me, gently felt the shirt and commented "...scales..."

I'm off to Maryland to visit my sister, brother-in-law, & niece, which I am SO SO excited about. Rye Bread & I have never been to DC, so any recommendations for eats, places to visits, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Do-Over, Done-Over

Rye Bread recently bribed me with Hermes scarf (in turn for taking my elusive GMATs), and I received a booklet of a bunch of different ways to tie scarves. I'm already OBSESSED with scarves, but have been wearing them SO SIMPLY (aka: like a SCARF). I was super excited to try out all these different ways; while this isn't EXACTLY what was described (nor is this an Hermes scarf), I saw this in an ad once and have been dying to try it.

Every summer, a bar in Hollywood starts their drinking hours a lot earlier on Sunday afternoons (2pm) and hosts a small backyard-like party outdoors, called Do-Over. They serve primarily sangria & beer by the carafe & pitcher. This is definitely the place to be, with a laid-back vibe, everyone chills to soul & hip-hop music and sangria-stained shirts. This was my first time there - and it was SO PACKED because of Labor Day. My friends & I waited in line for over 3 1/2 hours. Was it worth it? Yeah, it was fun. But I'm telling you - thank GOODNESS there was a Rite-Aid down the street so we could DRINK in line. I'm not condoning public drinking (cause you know, it's technically against the law & all), but it did keep me in good company last Sunday.

PMN: Rodarte for Target

It's no secret I love PMN with my constant purchases & postings; awhile back I purchased this new leopard print dress, but with its distinct print, I knew that I couldn't just wear it out to dinner and have been saving it for a special occasion. Last Friday it was my friend's birthday & we all headed to the Edison in DTLA for some drinks...aka: a perfect opportunity for me to wear this Rodarte for Target dress.
Rye Bread was a good sport & we had a mini photoshoot of our own:
And a few photos from the Edison:

The 4th

How were your guys' 4th of July? Having a 4-day weekend was the perfect remedy to my busy schedule. And I purposely took that time to catch up on my magazines & some much needed sun.

For the 4th, friends & I went to a local beach & since I have stick-straight hair, I knew that any beach waves I created wouldn't stay, so I opted for what most girls are doing - Dutch braids. My hair wasn't long enough, but the magic of bobby-pins helped.

+ Split hair down the center (I left my bangs parted to the side)
+ Braid each side & secure with hair ties
+ Simply pull each up to the center of your head & pin with bobby pins
+ Any left over strands only adds to the "modernness" of it - and helps prevent looking like a milkmaid.
